3.6.1 | Video Production - Promo Video
For this assignment you will create a Promotional Video for an event, team, club, or a course offered at SJA. This is an individual assignment. Only two promos for the same activity or item being promoted will be created. Once you have decided on what you are promoting please add it to the sign up sheet at the front of the class.
Find a club, team, event, group, or course, within our school community that needs help with a promotion for advertising on the Daily Messenger Show and/or Arc Player digital signage throughout the school. Now that it's course selection time, many elective courses like to promo their course, so ask about and see what teachers need this for their course.
Sign up early for what your selection is since only one other person will be able to promote that activity. Please check the list to see who has claimed an activity.

Prior to starting the assignment:
- Speak to the team/clubs advisor or the teacher the activity or class your want to promote.
- Discuss with them the plan of what you would like to create or ask them what they would like to show.
- Work on a plan, storyboard, with ideas to present to the team/clubs advisor.
- Once you have their approval - have them sign you plan, etc. to show that they have discussed you ideas with them.
Production:
- Execute the plan. This can be done on storyboard or in MS Word with an outline of the plan so that the teacher, advisor, or coach or your chosen promo can sign off on it.
- Edit your footage and add any treatments (music, effects, etc.) don't forget to including voiceovers to your promo.
Submit:
- Submit your Project Planning Report. If you created your report in MS Word, then submitted to the class Dropbox (Lastname_Firstname_3.7_promovideo.report.docx).
- I will print it and you can get it signed by who ever approved your plan.
- If you created a Storyboard, have whoever approved your plan sign it.
- Once signed, the storyboard can be submitted to me directly.
- Submit your completed promo video as Lastname_Firstname_3.7_promovideo.mp4
Extra Required Details:
- Your piece must be at least 30 seconds, but not exceed more than 45 seconds.
- All footage must be shot by you or your partner. Do not use found footage from Youtube or any other source - you must record it yourself. You can meet up with the advisor to record any footage you might need to help promote what message you want to send out.
- You promo should also have a voice over to give details and information on what is being promoted. The voice over could be you or the person you are creating the promo for.
- check out the various clips I provided for shooting interviews.
- interviews can be of students and why they joined or what can new members expect if they joined.
- Make sure to get footage for b-roll (shots of what the interviewee is talking about to cut away to).
- Music must be instrumental so that it does not compete with the voice-over. You can use reality music services like Incompetech, or if that site is blocked try Jamendo or FreePlayMusic. No commercial music will be allowed for this assignment. Students are also encouraged to use GarageBand to edit or create your music.
- when editing the audio and voice over ensure that the music audio does not overpower the voice audio track.
- Remember that this is to be informative and give as much detail about what the course, class, team, or club. To achieve this you will need to add titles and graphics that provide the information. The digital signage does not have sound, therefore, voice-overs and/or interviews are required to achieve better translation of what you are communicating.
RECAP: Your video must have.
- A club, team, event, group, course, within the school community highlighted.
- Be 30 - 45 seconds in length; no more, no less.
- Background music (royalty-free) that fits the mood of the video you are creating.
- Storyboard/Plan approved by the advisor of the promo.
- Titles that give information of the promotion.
- Only include footage that was created by you and edited by you.
- Voice Over is required. Don't let the music overpower what the person is saying. You can do the voice over or you can ask someone else in the class to do the voice over for you.
- Segment set to 4:3 format to fit the school's broadcast system requirements.
All final work must be reviewed and approved by Mr. Plommer, or the client, before broadcast. Submit your completed promo video as Lastname_Firstname_3.8_promovideo.mp4

EXEMPLAR
|
|
Although these are my current exemplars, they all need some work on the audio. Most times it's difficult to understand the person. If the students used a microphone or cleaned up the audio using Adobe Audition, they would have had improved the audio quality and improve their mark. Who knows maybe your will be featured here as my new Exemplar!
